In 1868, rumors of a sea monster attacking ships in the Pacific Ocean have disrupted shipping lanes. The United States invites Professor Pierre M. Aronnax and his assistant, Conseil, onto an expedition to prove the monster's existence. On board with them is the co*cky master harpooner Ned Land.
After months of searching, the "monster" is spotted shortly before it rams the ship. Ned and Aronnax are thrown overboard, and Conseil goes in after Aronnax. The warship, burning and helpless, drifts silently and no one on board responds to the overboard passengers. The three find a strange-looking metal vessel, and realize the "monster" is a man-made "submerging boat" that appears deserted. Aronnax finds a viewing window and witnesses an underwater funeral.

Subject: That 20,000 Leagues was meant horizontally
In reply to the two previous reviewers, the 20,000 Leagues was accomplished by travelling horizontally across the oceans while submerged.
I liked the scene where it's implied that the Nautilus is powered by some kind of Steampunk nuclear energy.

Subject: Good picture I'm an idiot
I had my sound on the laptop turned off.I would rather have a picture and sound than just sound but apicture without sound is useless.If I can only have one I want sound. This has both though. I thinK Peter Lorre is miscast here.I picture professor aronax's assistant as a young strong man of 30 at most. Peter Lorre must be sixty here.He is a good actor but this role is not for him.
